Kylian Mbappe's departure from Paris Saint-Germain this summer has encountered a new complication as reports surface that the French club has yet to fulfill its obligation to pay the forward his April salary.
According to L'Équipe, PSG has not disbursed the 25-year-old's April wages along with an additional bonus. PSG's president, Nasser Al Khelaïfi, who is overseeing negotiations with Mbappe, has reversed course on the agreed bonuses and is now seeking compensation from Real Madrid, given that the Spanish club is poised to acquire Mbappe on a free transfer.
Al Khelaïfi aims to recoup the €80 million loyalty bonus paid to Mbappe in February 2024 by PSG, as reported by Diario AS. Mbappe voluntarily waived this bonus in August 2023 to alleviate financial strain on PSG and honor his contract until its conclusion.
Real Madrid's president, Florentino Pérez, maintains a firm stance against providing compensation, asserting that there is no obligation to remunerate a player whose contract is expiring imminently.
This impasse leaves PSG in a challenging position, unable to persuade Mbappe to prolong his tenure. Legal counsel has been enlisted in an effort to resolve the deadlock amicably, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Mbappe's tenure at PSG has been tumultuous since his decision not to extend his contract. Despite his prolific performance during the 2023/2024 season, which saw him score 44 goals in 48 matches and secure the Ligue 1 title and French Cup, his relationship with the club soured. Manager Luis Enrique relegated him to a peripheral role towards the end of the season, notably omitting him from the squad for the final two matches.
