Akua Donkor: Ghana Freedom Party Presidential Candidate Dies At Age 72

Akua Donkor, founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party, has passed away at Ridge Hospital in Accra on the evening of October 28.

A family member confirmed her death to the media on October 29, but the cause has not been revealed. Donkor, who was 72, was preparing for her fourth presidential bid in the upcoming 2024 general election. She was recently seen joyfully submitting her nomination forms to the Electoral Commission.

Donkor's running mate, Kwabena Agyekum Appiah Kubi, also known as "Roman Fada," shared that she had not been well and had been taken to Nsawam Government Hospital days before her passing.

Having previously run in two elections, she was listed as the third candidate for the 2024 presidential race. Donkor began her political career as an assemblywoman for Herman and made her first presidential attempt in 2012 as an independent candidate.

In the lead-up to the 2024 general elections, she was actively preparing her campaign with just 39 days remaining, promising policies that included free vehicles for journalists, free education, duty-free port services for the clearance of goods and improved remuneration for farmers.

Renowned for her spirited presence in Ghanaian politics, Akua Donkor was a staunch advocate for the rights of farmers and women. May her soul rest in peace.
