John Dumelo Mourns the Loss of His Father Just Days Before His Swearing-In as MP

John Dumelo, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has shared the sad news of his father’s passing, Engineer John William Kudzo Anato-Dumelo Snr, who died at the age of 75.

In a heartfelt social media post, Dumelo reflected on his final moments with his father, revealing that their last conversation took place just hours before his death.

“At 75, you lived a full life,” Dumelo wrote. “Yesterday, you called me multiple times to visit. We sat together on the bed, discussing politics, life, farming, business—and yes, we even gossiped. We talked about my swearing-in ceremony in just three days, and you advised me to serve with dedication in government.”

Dumelo went on to recount the tragic events that followed their discussion.

“Just ten minutes after I left your house, I received a call saying you were unresponsive. I rushed back, and we quickly took you to the hospital, but you were gone.”

Expressing deep gratitude and love, Dumelo described his father as his best friend, greatest supporter, and constant source of strength.

“Thank you for being my father, my best friend, my number one cheerleader, and for everything you did for me,” he said.

In his final words, Dumelo bid his father farewell with a touching tribute: “Say hi to mum for us... we will miss you. Rest in perfect peace, Engineer John William Kudzo Anato-Dumelo Snr.”

This loss comes at a crucial moment in Dumelo’s political career. Having recently triumphed in the parliamentary race for Ayawaso West Wuogon against incumbent Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by 2,200 votes.

Dumelo is set to be sworn in as MP in just three days. His father’s advice to serve diligently in government will certainly  inspire him as he embarks on this new chapter.
