"This Is Not What Ghanaians Need" - Shatta Wale Slams Sam George Over Special Independence Day Bundle

Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale has criticized Sam George, the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, over the introduction of a special Independence Day data bundle offer.

In a post on social media, Shatta Wale expressed disappointment, arguing that Ghanaians needed financial support from the government rather than discounted data bundles. He emphasized that the country’s citizens were in dire need of monetary assistance, not reduced data prices.

Shatta Wale's comments, shared on his official Facebook page on March 7, 2025, targeted both the minister and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for prioritizing the bundle initiative over addressing more pressing economic issues.

 The musician wrote,

"This is not what Ghanaians need. You think this is what can keep you in power? You didn’t even offer 1000ghc for every Ghanaian, and soon you'll be planning to buy properties abroad. Let’s get serious! Our people need money, money, money!"

His remarks came after Sam George announced that all telecommunication companies in Ghana would offer discounted data bundles as part of the country's 68th Independence Day celebrations. The special bundles, priced at GH₵ 10, were available for purchase on March 6, 2025, and were valid for 72 hours.

The initiative, introduced by the Mahama administration, aims to promote the digitalization of the country. Additionally, Sam George announced the One Million Coders Programme, which seeks to train one million Ghanaians in digital skills.

Shatta Wale’s post sparked a variety of responses from social media users, with some supporting his views and others defending the government’s initiative.
