Agya Koo walks out of performance after ‘Mahama’ chant

Legendary Ghanaian actor  Alex Kofi Adu, popularly known as Agya Koo, abruptly ended his performance at a funeral when a funeral attendant allegedly shouted in support of former President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to reports, he clashed with audience members who were supporters of the NDC party, leading to a heated argument. A video of the incident has gone viral online, eliciting mixed reactions from fans on social media.

In the viral video, the actor, who was performing with a live band at the funeral, stopped singing to address the attendant who shouted in support of John Mahama.

Known for his strong support of the National Patriotic Party (NPP), Agya Koo has actively participated in various campaign activities. In the video trending on social media, the seasoned highlife musician was seen confronting some fans who interrupted his performance with NDC chants.

In the video, Agya Koo is seen explaining that some members of his music band are prominent figures in the opposition NDC. Despite their political differences, they have united to form a live band and were performing at the funeral of an NPP member.

The actor highlighted this as an example of unity and tolerance for diverse views and choices. Pointing to one band member, Agya Koo said,

"This lady used to be a teacher in the Central Region, but now she is an organizer in the NPP. The drummers you see here are also members of the NDC, but we are all working together on the same team because we are tolerant and all Ghanaians."

The fans accused the 55-year-old of being politically intolerant and trying to spread NPP propaganda. Agya Koo attempted to defend himself, stating that he respects members of other parties and even has band members who support the NDC, led by former president John Dramani Mahama.

Despite his explanation, the argument escalated, and Agya Koo eventually halted his performance, dropping the mic and seemingly ending his session.

"I was surprised and disappointed by the chant, we were there to perform and unite, not to campaign”, he said .

Feeling disrespected, he ended his performance and walked out.

The Kumawood actor has not yet addressed the situation publicly following the viral spread of the video.
