I have a movie about galamsey that is yet to be premiered - Dr. Likee

Popular Ghanaian comic actor Dr. Likee, also known as Akabenezer, has revealed that he has created a movie about illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey, which is yet to be released.

This comes in response to the severe negative effects of illegal mining on Ghana’s water bodies and forest reserves, which have rendered many rivers unsafe for consumption. 

Various organizations, such as the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) and the Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (TUTAG), have gone on strike, urging the government to ban illegal mining. Recently, Catholic Churches in Accra protested against galamsey on Friday, October 11.

During an appearance on The Bonah Show, Dr. Likee mentioned that he has produced a lot of content on galamsey, with the most significant piece set for release next month. This project aims to highlight the harmful effects of illegal mining.

"I have plenty of content on galamsey, and I even have a movie on it that will be released next month," he said.

The award-winning actor emphasized that the movie is not politically driven but focuses on raising awareness about the environmental damage caused by galamsey and the urgent need to stop it.

"The movie is not about politics but rather encourages us to end galamsey. Our water bodies have suffered greatly. When I travel abroad, I see how water bodies are preserved, but ours keep deteriorating," he explained.

In an interview, popular Ghanaian comic actor Dr. Likee expressed his strong criticism of the current galamsey crisis and stated that the fight against is a crucial call rather than a political one.

Illegal mining continues to pose a serious threat to Ghana’s environment, with increasing calls for the government to take decisive action. Many organizations and individuals have joined efforts to pressure the government to enforce a nationwide ban on the activity.
