Dr. Likee opens up about his past dealings in drug trade – ‘I was arrested every week’

Ghanaian actor and comedian Ebenezer Akwasi Antwi, known as Dr. Likee, recently revealed startling revelations about his earlier life.

During an interview on Emelia Brobbey's Okukuseku show, he confessed to his involvement in the illegal drug trade.

Dr. Likee explained that after dropping out of secondary school, he faced numerous challenges and initially worked as a scrap dealer before becoming a landguard.

He recounted being introduced to drug trafficking by a man he respected as his boss, who had returned from the United States. Driven by financial need, he entered the illicit drug trade and enjoyed a lavish lifestyle.

He admitted to advising former convicts against armed robbery, suggesting drug dealing as a safer alternative. Despite frequent arrests, he claimed he was only convicted six times for drug-related offenses.

According to him, dealing drugs seemed less risky compared to armed robbery, as it did not typically result in fatal encounters with law enforcement.

“When you are on the street, the idea is to make money, and there are ways to do so without necessarily engaging in armed robbery. So if you are bold, you can engage in dealing with illicit drugs. Every week I used to go to the police station because I was arrested.

“I could even introduce someone who has come out of prison to the illicit drug business instead of the person engaging in thievery. With the drugs, they don’t beat you when arrested, but with robbery, you could be crushed to death. The drug business was very lucrative,” he recounted

Dr. Likee confessed that during his time in the drug trade, he became distrustful of everyone, including his own mother and girlfriend. He recalled a friend accusing him of being an armed robber due to his nocturnal work schedule.

Despite his troubled past, Dr. Likee has successfully rehabilitated his career and is now a prominent figure in the Kumawood film industry.
